Westferry Printers

On November 29th 2011, N&S Chairman Richard Desmond switched on the presses at the new £100 million state-of-the-art printing facility in Luton. The four KBA Commander CT presses are capable of printing one million full-colour newspapers every three hours and provide improved image quality and colour definition. The new facility is responsible for production of full colour-editions of the Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday as well as contract printing.

The site development and significant capital investment underpin the Group’s commitment to print publishing over the long-term. The four highly automated KBA Commander CT compact presses are equipped with 22 Pastomat reelstands, 22 four-high towers and four high-performance KF 7 folders installed in two parallel lines, with an automated reel-logistics system. The plant also has a benefit of four online inserting and stitching facilities.
